Adapting Technology in the Service of Enhanced Educational Engagements in Teacher Education

This project will develop an innovative, blended online course to replace two compulsory foundational courses within our B.Ed. These courses offer students an opportunity to explore the social, cultural, psychological and historical contexts of education and to link schooling to broader social issues. They are presently offered in a large number of small sections (including off-campus). This project will develop an innovative, blended online course to replace these two courses. This new course is not merely a translation of two existing courses into a blended format; instead, we envision this proposal as a first and substantial step in reimagining the delivery of teacher education in ways that emphasize student engagement, experiential learning and make innovate use of digital technologies and social media. Although the first phase of this will only involve the consecutive program we hope that in the future it will also be the core element of a new teacher education program and offer a means to bring concurrent and consecutive students together in new and exciting ways.
